Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) Modeling

As the modern power grids grows increasingly complex, Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies are becoming crucial for accurately capturing the rapid behaviors and interactions of inverter-based resources (IBRs) within the Bulk Power System (BPS). The rapid growth of IBRs, reliability issues with weaker grid areas, proliferation of AI-driven data centers, high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission developments, and complex controller interactions now make EMT-level analysis essential for maintaining BPS reliability. What was once a specialized niche, EMT studies are becoming a core competency and a central requirement for both interconnection and system planning assessments, helping utilities and grid operators maintain the stability and reliability of the evolving power system.
