Interregional Transfer Capability Study
In 2023, Congress passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which required NERC to conduct a study on the reliable transfer of electric power between neighboring transmission planning areas. As per the act, NERC worked in consultation with regional entities and industry stakeholders to conduct transfer capabilities studies for regional transmission areas across the United States. The study aims to recommend transfer capability enhancements that are necessary to ensure reliability.
After 18 months of outreach and collaboration, NERC has filed its Interregional Transfer Capability Study (ITCS) with FERC. Explore the full scope and findings of the ITCS on NERC’s dedicated ITCS webpage, and preview its insights in the ITCS video.
